Prof. Samuel Benjamin Owusu-Mintah,

‘Professor Samuel Benjamin Owusu-Mintah is a professor of Tourism at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU). He was appointed a lecturer at CCTU (formerly Cape Coast Polytechnic) on 1st October 2001, after he had completed his MPhil Degree in Tourism at the University of Cape Coast, where he further read for a Ph. D in Tourism and graduated in September, 2012. He is a product of the University of Ghana, having received his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in Geography and Resource Development with Sociology in 1991. After which he taught Social Studies at Wiawso College of Education (1992-1998), his alma mater, where he trained as a Basic School Teacher from 1974 to 1978.
Prof. Owusu-Mintah has been a former Acting Head of the Department of Fashion and Textile Studies (2004-2005) at CCTU and Head of the Department of Tourism (2005-2012; 2014-2015. He has also been the Director of Research and New Programmes at CCTU (2015-2016) and Dean of Students’ Affairs (2016-2018). He has over twenty published articles in peer reviewed journals and has presented several papers at conferences, both nationally and internationally. He undertook the review and documentation of the Curriculum for HND and B.Tech Tourism Programmes for CCTU in 2010. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Staff Development and Research Committee and an Internal Assessor on the Appointments and Promotions Board of CCTU. He has co-authored a chapter in a major tourism textbook Tourism in Ghana: A major synthesis and he is the author of a textbook Ecotourism development in Ghana: An introduction, published in 2013 and found in Amazon books.
Prof. Owusu-Mintah was promoted Senior Lecturer in 2010, Associate Professor in 2014 and Full Professor of Tourism on December 1, 2017. He was the first to be promoted as a full Professor in any Technical University in Ghana. He was also the first to successfully deliver an inaugural lecture in any Technical University in Ghana, entitled “Tourism Education in Ghana: Laying the Golden Egg for Post Covid 19 Ghana?” on the 6th of August 2021. He has been a visiting lecturer at the Departments of Management Studies Education and Hospitality and Tourism Education at the Appiah-Menka University of Skills and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) Kumasi. Prof Owusu-Mintah is a part time lecturer at the Pan African Institute of Life and Earth Sciences (PAULESI) at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He has supervised numerous Undergraduate and Postgraduate Research works and externally examined some M.Phil. and PhD Theses from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University of Cape Coast. He is a Member of the Hospitality and Tourism Educators Association of Ghana.
Prof. Owusu-Mintah is a Christian and a staunch member of the Assemblies of God Church. He has held the position of a deacon on two occasions at Santasi Evangelical AG (1986-1988) and Calvary AG, Kakumdo Cape Coast (2005-2008), where he is still President of the Men’s Ministries. He is married and has grown-up children, some of whom are in the fashion and legal professions while others are in education and health professions in Ghana.
